Obituary

CONWAY, Darren Joseph - Passed away peacefully on December 16th, 2023, surrounded by his loving family, Darren Joseph Conway of Conception Harbour at the age of 59.

Predeceased by his parents Dick & Germaine, brother Eugene (Shirley), Mom Gushue and special friend Tom McGrath. Leaving to mourn, his childhood sweetheart and loving "gentle" wife of over 40 years, Anna; his 3 children, Allison (Chad), Ashley (Steven), and Jeff (Lorna Marie) who he was so proud of and bragged about constantly; his 5 grandchildren, Landon, Claire, Noah, Mya and Jack, whom he adored and were his pride and joy; Mother-in-law Anna Gushue whom he referred to as the "old fossil" and who dearly loved him and his daily visits; siblings Rose, Alice, Dick (Doreen), Austin (Mary), Jack (Janice), Tom (Bev), Ron (Lee Ann), Kathleen (Mark), Elaine, honorary siblings Sean (Dale), and Corinne, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Darren was a hard-working man who loved everyone and lived life to the fullest.  His family was his world.  He was so happy that his kids had found such great partners and commented on this often.  His famous words were, "we are so lucky".  He was such a proud Poppy and the love he had for his 5 grandkids was immeasurable.

His door was always open to family and friends (and anyone else who walked through it).  You could always expect a big smile and an even bigger hug.  There was always too much food to be eaten and many laughs to be had.

He loved spending time at his cabin in Nichols Pond.  It was a place for get-togethers, great conversations and music.  The more, the merrier.  The pot was always on the stove and no matter how many people showed up, "everyone gets a cut" (but there was always enough for a small army).  When you showed up in home, you never knew where he would be hiding, trying to scare you or waiting to play a practical joke, all followed by the biggest belly laughs.

Special thanks to Dr. Srour and all the nurses at Carbonear General Hospital who went above and beyond during this difficult time.  Your kindness and professionalism was very much appreciated and will be forever remembered.

Special Quotes:

"He loves it when you called him Big Poppa"

"If everything that goes in it is good, it gotta come out good"

When asked if he wanted seconds of anything, "it was good, but it wasn't that good"

"You mind what goes over your gums and I'll mind what goes over mine"

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, we would walk right up to heaven and bring you home again."
