It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Helen Joyce Lewis on March 18, 2025 at the Private Josiah Squibb Memorial Pavillion in Carbonear. She left us peacefully after a long battle with dementia. Helen was born and raised in Spaniard's Bay and later moved to Colliers where she married the love of her life, Jim Lewis, and together they created a loving and vibrant family.

Helen was the cherished mother of nine children: Sharon (Daryl), Alice, Patricia (Graham), Jim (Janice), Norah (Keith), Annette, John, Susanne (Bennie), and the late Rosemary, who passed away at 20 months. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a constant presence of warmth and care in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Helen was a proud grandmother to 13 grandchildren: Jim (Pam), Billy (Holly), Tristian, Steven (Stephany), Jaimie, Jordan (Zoran), Max (Julia), Mathew, Caitlyn (Alistair), Sarah (Aaron), Jake, Sam, and Coady (Sabreana).

She was also blessed with 7 great-grandchildren: Chelsea, Abigail, Aubree, Denver, Randi-Lynn, Penelope, Willa and Nate.

Helen's life was rich with family, and she is survived by her brothers: Herman (Betty), Gerald (Robin) and her sisters: Marie (Herbert dec.) and Eileen (Rob dec.); brother-in-law Joe Lewis (Rita), sister-in-law Alice Phillips (John); and she was predeceased by her brothers: Wilfred (Rosemary), Chess (Elsie dec.), Bill (Gen) and her sister Betty (Ed).

She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who were dear to her.

Helen was also blessed with 12 wonderful in-laws and their spouses, and it was our Aunt Alice who introduced her to her beloved husband Jim. Helen was a woman of incredible strength, deeply caring for those she loved. She was a very gentle, quiet woman with great faith. Her house was always immaculate, and she had a remarkable gift for baking. She also had an unshakable sense of community and tirelessly supported the organizations she was part of (as do many women in Colliers). Always teaching her children the importance of helping and being involved. Our mom was a loyal friend, a keeper of secrets, and someone you could always count on.

From a young age, Helen had a sweet tooth, often choosing a chocolate bar over a full meal - a delightful little detail of her character that brought joy to those around her.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Private Josiah Squibb Memorial Pavillion, particularly the 4th Floor North nurses and staff, who cared for our Mom with compassion and love since 2022. We would also like to express our deepest gratitude to our wonderful neighbours, Maurice and Isabel, whose unwavering support for our Mom and Dad over the years has meant the world to our family.

We would also like to extend our deepest gratitude to our two wonderful sisters, Alice and Patricia, their unwavering love and dedication in caring for our Mom, especially since the rest of us live far away, has meant the world to our family. Their selflessness and devotion to her during this time are deeply appreciated and will never be forgotten.

Additionally, a special thank you to our sister Annette, who traveled often to visit Mom over the last few years. Annette's presence and support were a great comfort to our Mom, and we are all so grateful for the time and care you gave to her.

Resting at Flaherty's Memorial Funeral Home, 70 Conception Bay Highway, Conception Harbour, with visitation on Thursday, March 20, from 11:00am - 9:00pm, and Friday, March 21, from 11:00am - 9:00pm.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Our Lady of the Snows Church, Marysvale on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at 1:00pm.

Interment to follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Colliers.
