It is with profoundly heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joseph John Cole, who passed away on February 1, 2026 at the age of 75.

Joe was a man of quiet strength, deep love, and unwavering devotion to his family. Known for his steady presence and generous heart, he lived his life with purpose and humility. To those who knew him best, Joe was simply Pop—a title he wore with pride and love.

Joe dedicated 32 years of his working life to Newfoundland Power, from which he retired in 2000. He was deeply proud of his many years with the company and often spoke with fondness, sharing memories and stories from his time there—stories that reflected his strong work ethic, loyalty, and the friendships he built along the way.

Pop was a natural storyteller, often sharing cherished tales from his childhood. He loved to dance and sing, and many fond memories were made as he pulled his family into the kitchen to dance along with him. Through his joy and enthusiasm, they all learned to love music and dance. Pop loved a good yarn and a great tune, and any gathering was made brighter by his laughter, stories, song and dance.

Joe is predeceased by his parents, Edith and Joseph Cole; his sisters Jean (Martin), Anna, Lorraine (Tim), and Marie; his parents-in-law, Catherine and Timothy O'Toole; and his in-laws, Patrick, Vick, Tim, John, Betty, and Fidelis.

He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 55 years, Catherine; his son Joey (Tina); and his daughters Tracy (Benny), Leann (Michael), Leslie, and Lindsey (Patrick). Left with fond and loving memories are the true lights of his life—his grandchildren: Josh (Abby), Jordan, Kirk, Taylor (Jeremy), Lily, McKinlee, Emma, Drake, Avery Jo, Rielle, and Lauren.

Joe also leaves behind a large circle of family and friends and will be especially missed by his siblings: his brother and best friend, Bill, and his sisters Germaine (Francis), Noreen, Barbara (Jerome), and Mary (Wayne); as well as his sisters-in-law Helen, Shirley (Cyril), and Therese.

Pop lived for his family. Time spent together—whether in laughter, stories, song and dance—meant more to him than anything else. His love, guidance, and joy will live on through each of them.

Joe took his final breaths surrounded by all the people he loved most—his wife, children, and grandchildren—each holding his hands until the very end, just as he would have wanted.

Life will never be the same without you, but we will always carry you with us. You will be forever loved, deeply missed, and always remembered.

Visitation will take place at Flaherty's Memorial Funeral Home, 70 Conception Bay Highway, Conception Harbour, Thursday, February 5th from 12:00pm - 4:00pm and 6:00pm - 9:00pm, and Friday, February 6th from 12:00pm - 4:00pm and 6:00 pm - 9:00pm.

Funeral Mass will take place at Assumption Church, Station Road, Avondale, Saturday, February 7th, 2026 at 11:00am.

Interment to follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Cemetery Road, Colliers.
