WHELAN (nee GUSHUE), Mary Rebecca - Passed peacefully away at her home in Bay Roberts on Friday the 19th of November 2021, at the age of 88 years old.

Mary was born in Colliers on August 13th, 1933, to Mary and Matt Gushue.  Mary is predeceased by her parents: Mary and Matt Gushue; her siblings: Kitty and Joe Gushue; husband James Whelan; her children: Maxine and Eugene; and grandchild Eugene Whelan.

She is remembered and loved by her siblings: Rachel, Patricia, Loretta, Agnes, Tom, Eddie, and Philomena.  Loved forever by her children: Bernie Parsons (Lloyd), Gerry (Joan), Ron, Exie Arsenault (Allen), Jim (Lorraine), Richard, Matt (Vanessa), Kim (Maggie), and Lorena.  She had a very large family of grandchildren and great grandchildren, plus nieces and nephews, too numerous to name.  Each one was special to Mary, and they knew they were loved by her.  Mary was looking forward to the arrival of her soon to be great- great-granddaughter Melody Mercer.  Littlest, but not least, she will be missed by her little furry sidekick Molly who accompanied her on many of her adventures.

Special thanks to her family physician of many years, Dr. Jackman as well as the ICU and Medicine Floor Staff at Carbonear General Hospital during these past weeks and days.  Special thank you to her daughter-in -law Lorraine Whelan and grand-daughter Patricia Mercer for helping her pass peacefully at home, surrounded by her family.

Mary will always be remembered for her love of sharing stories over tea, baking bread and knitting.  She loved video chats and keeping up to date with friends and family.  She travelled all over the globe to visit family and lived life to the fullest.  She embraced life and was fearless.  Her strength was immeasurable, especially in these last few days.  She truly lived life on her terms and in her own way!

Her family will carry their memories of her in their hearts.

Resting at Flaherty's Memorial Funeral Home, 70 Conception Bay Highway, Conception Harbour, with visitation on Monday, November 22nd, from 2:00pm-9:00pm.

Funeral Mass will take place from Immaculate Conception Church, Colliers, on Tuesday, November 23rd, 2021, at 11:00am.

Cremation to follow.

Inurnment will take place on Saturday, November 27th, 2021, at 2:00pm, in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Colliers, in the Family Plot.
