Michael Bernard Griffin
January 27, 1947 – December 26, 2024
It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Michael Bernard Griffin, a loving husband, beloved father, grandfather, and active community member, who left us on December 26, 2024, at the age of 77. Born on January 27, 1947, in Colliers, Newfoundland, Mike dedicated his life to his family and the community he cherished.
He spent over 35 years working for the Eastern School Board as a dedicated public servant. Beyond work, he was an enthusiastic volunteer, actively participating in numerous local organizations, including the Fire Department and Parish Council. Mike had a passion for the outdoors, spending many days fishing and hunting and he spent many years camping at Gushue's Pond Park with his camping family. He was an avid gardener and took pride in working with his hands building patios where family and friends would gather for meals, he lovingly prepared.
Mike was the heart of his family and we have experienced a great loss, but we are comforted by the shared stories from our extended family and large group of friends whose company he enjoyed immensely. He cherished his role of husband to Kit and as a father to his two children, Yvette and Michelle, and a grandfather to three adoring grandchildren. He was known for his infectious laughter, warm hugs, and he had a knack for storytelling, captivating everyone with his tales. His love for his grandchildren was boundless; he delighted in attending their sporting events, school plays, and any occasion that brought them together.
Predeceased by his parents: James and Mary; mother and father-in-law: John and Mattie Whelan; brothers: John and Jimmy; sisters: Elizabeth Griffin and Bride McDonald (John); and his beloved nephews: John and Joe. Fondly remembered by his loving wife Kit; children: Yvette (Jerry) Lewis and Michelle (Dave) Noel; his cherished grandchildren: Josie (Colin), Jeremy and Griffin; his brother Pete (Skit); brother-in-law Sam (Mary) and sisters-in-law: Anne Marie and Anna; his nieces and nephews and a large circle of family and friends.
At Mike's request cremation has taken place.
Visitation will take place at Flaherty's Memorial Funeral Home, 70 Conception Bay Highway, Conception Harbour, Monday, December 30th, 10:00 am – 9:00 pm.
