Patrick Leo (Paddy) Phillips

June 13th, 1943 – May 22nd, 2026

As they reflect on a lifetime of beautiful memories, the family of Patrick Leo (Paddy) Phillips of Colliers sadly announce the passing of their beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend at age 82.

Predeceased by his father and mother: Patrick and Mary Phillips; brothers: Cyril (Ann), Charlie, Jim, Greg, nephew Mikey; sister-in-law: Alice Phillips; brother-in-law: Kevin Whelan and deceased members of the Cole family: Chris (Mary), Mary Agatha, Theodore (Daphne), William Cole and Billy Foley.

He is remembered by the love of his life and best friend, his wife: Annie Mae; daughters: Lesley Ann Manning (Tim) and Lenore Moore (Justin); cherished grandchildren: Anna & Ben Manning and Addison & Bax Moore along with his bonus daughters Teena Spurrell (Mike), Corina White (Cliff) and their children.  He is also lovingly remembered by his sister: Marguerite Whelan; brothers: John, Ben (Frances), Sam (Betty), Nick (Mena), and Rick (Linda); sisters-in law Rose & Marilyn Phillips; brothers-in-law: Bernard (Mary), Louis (Frances) and sister-in-law, Edwina (Derrick).

Paddy grew up on the cross in Colliers as part of a large family where they learned early on that they needed to stick together and support one another.  These values along with a healthy dose of humor kept their family close through many years and different stages of life.  They also supplied Paddy with endless storytelling material from how to stretch a dollar to feed 12 and how to make bologna stew.

Later in life, Paddy was a devoted husband to Annie Mae and father to Lesley Ann and Lenore for 29 wonderful years.  He completed their family and they created a beautiful home and life together.  He brought so much joy and laughter to their lives. One of his proudest moments in life was becoming a Poppy.  His love for his grandchildren was so clearly evident when he would sing and dance with them.  He loved to join them on family vacations where he would usually be the first to jump into the pool.

Paddy loved watching curling, hockey and baseball and he dearly loved his Toronto Maple Leafs.  He attended his first NHL game in 2025.  He loved all things politics and supported many PC campaigns.  He looked forward to playing cards twice a week with his card buddies and only missed to go dancing, another favorite pass time.

Paddy had a rare gift for making people feel heard, valued and understood.  He could walk into a crowded room and make a connection with each and every person there.  As a man of strong faith, he was a part of the church community and maintained close connections with many people in Colliers and surrounding communities.  He was a lifetime volunteer which included serving as the Mayor of Colliers, 40 years with the Colliers Volunteer Fire Department and most recently he supported the ATV Trail Association and the Immaculate Conception Cemetery Committee.

Visitation will take place at Flaherty’s Memorial Funeral Home, 70 Conception Bay Highway, Conception Harbour, Tuesday, May 26th from 2:00pm - 9:00pm and Wednesday, May 27th from 2:00pm - 9:00pm.

Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday, May 28th at 11:00am at the Assumption Church in Avondale. Interment to follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Colliers.  Afterwards a celebration of life will be held for Paddy at the Colliers Recreation Centre.

Flowers graciously accepted or donations can be made to the Immaculate Conception Cemetery Fund in his memory.
