Patrick Joseph
Ryan
Feb 15, 1948 — Oct 10, 2025
Colliers
In Loving Memory of Patrick (Paddy) Joseph Ryan, Colliers, Newfoundland.
On Friday, October 10th, 2025, our hearts were broken as we said goodbye to Patrick (Paddy) Joseph Ryan, who passed suddenly at the Carbonear General Hospital at the age of 77.
Paddy was a man who lived quietly but loved deeply. He leaves behind the love of his life and wife of 55 years, Alice (Simms) — his constant companion and best friend. Together they built a life rooted in love, laughter, and family.
He will be forever cherished by his children Rory (Debbie), Shanna, and Kerry (Kelly), as well as by his beloved niece Linda Ryan and Steve Simms (Corinne), both of whom he loved as his own. Paddy was a proud grandfather to Chelsea, Ryan, Kian, Conor, Makayla, Erin, Michael, Katie, and John — each one a piece of his proud heart.
Paddy is predeceased by his parents Michael and Anne Ryan, his sister Mary Wade, and his brother Len Ryan (June). He is lovingly remembered by his sister Aggie Healey (John) and brother Thomas Ryan (Rita), along with a large circle of family and friends who were touched by his quiet kindness and genuine nature.
Paddy was most at peace in the great outdoors, especially at his beloved cabin at the head of Nicholas Pond — a place that connected him to his father and to the land he loved so dearly. Weekends there were filled with the sound of laughter, the crackle of a woodstove, and the simple joy of being surrounded by nature and family.
He also had a soft spot for every animal that crossed his path, but none more so than his faithful Newfoundland dog Dory, who was never far from his side and gave him years of loyal companionship and joy.
Paddy worked hard all his life, but his true legacy is the love he gave and the values he passed on — kindness, loyalty, and quiet strength. He was a man of few words but great heart, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
At Patrick's request cremation has taken place.
Celebration of Paddy's life will take place at Flaherty's Memorial Funeral Home, 70 Conception Bay Highway, Conception Harbour, Sunday, October 26th, 2025, from 2:00pm - 4:00pm . Family and friends can gather to share stories, laughter, and love — just as he would have wanted.
Poem for Paddy
(Inspired by Robert Frost's "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening")
The woods were always kind to him,
Their silence soft, their heart made wide,
Where stillness spoke and time stood still,
And nature walked there by his side.
He knew each path, each pond, each tree,
Each whispering wind, each ripple's play,
And in those woods he found his peace —
The kind that never fades away.
Now though his cabin stands alone,
And quiet settles on the shore,
The love he left will linger there,
In every breeze, forevermore.
