COX, Stephen Joseph - Passed away peacefully in the presence of his family, Stephen Joseph Cox of Wreck Cove, at the age of 77 years.

Predeceased by his loving wife Audrey (nee Price); parents: Bethena (nee Sheppard) and Leslie Cox; parents-in-law: Winnifred (nee Blagdon) and Richard Price; brother Jonathan Cox; sister-in-law Annette (nee Price) Taylor; brother's-in-law: Howard Price and Barry Leights; and nephew Richard Price (Jr.).

Leaving to mourn with sad hearts his daughter Amanda (Bob) Murphy; son Corey (Rosalind) Cox; precious grandchildren: Julianna Murphy (Blake Snow), Ethan Murphy and Gabriel Cox; sister Cora (Bruce) Vallis; sister's-in-law: Una Cox, Judy (Steve) Bartlett and Janice (Leonard) Piercey; brother's-in-law: Richard (Geraldine) Price and Max Taylor; special friend Beverly Stone; special nephew Bradley Cox; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Stephen Joseph Cox (Joe) was born at Wreck Cove on February 25, 1947, to Leslie & Bethena Cox, the second of three children.  Joe had an older brother Jonathan and a younger sister Cora.

Joe grew up in Wreck Cove and he was considered to be a little imp. Joe and his friends, especially Reg, were always getting into trouble.

At age 16 he quit school and went to work as a trawlerman on the Rupert Brand 5, a dragger owned by BC Packers of Hr. Breton.

On October 15, 1971, he married the love of his life, Audrey Price of Boxey.  Together, they raised their two children, Amanda & Corey at Wreck Cove.

Following the birth of his daughter Amanda, Joe went to work with J. Petite & Sons Ltd. Of English Hr. West as a school bus driver and truck driver.  During that time he also fished with his father, Les, in the inshore lobster and ground fishery.  When his father became ill, in 1986, Joe took over the fishing enterprise and he and his wife Audrey fished it until her sudden death in Apri, 2004.  He sold his fishing enterprise in 2011 and following that divided his time between his home at Wreck Cove and his daughter Amanda's home at Colliers.

Joe lived a very lonely life following Audrey's death until he met a special friend Beverly Stone of Clarenville in 2010.  They spent their time together playing cards and socializing with friends at Clarenville and especially at their RV at the Shriner's RV Park at Eastport where he also enjoyed his boat and fishing with friends in the recreational cod fishery.  Joe was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis of the lungs and in the late stages of his life, he moved to Colliers with Amanda and her family where he died on September 16, 2024.

Joe lived a very active life.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, a game of darts & playing cards with friends and especially spending time with his grandchildren Julianna, Ethan & Gabriel.  Joe was a jack of many trades and was always willing and enjoyed lending a helping hand to people that needed something done in the community and at the RV park.  Because of his outgoing personality and zest for life he became a good friend to many who knew him.  He left a lasting mark on the hearts and minds of those whom he met during his life.  He was loved and will be missed by many, especially his family and closet friends.

Joe has been cremated at his request.  An inurnment will be held at St. John the Evangelist Cemetery at Boxey, at a time to be determined.
