Conway's Funeral Home was established in 1955, by Mr. Richard (Dick) Conway and his wife Mrs. Jennie (Jen) Conway. The legacy of Conway's Funeral Home started out in the picturesque community of Colliers, Conception Bay, and their first location was at the Conway's Family Home in the lower level, which had all the requisites of a funeral home during that time.

In 1981, their daughter Ms. Carol Ann Conway became involved in the family funeral home and received her funeral director and embalmer licenses in 1983, under the apprenticeship of Carnell's Funeral Home, St. John's. Mr. Richard (Dick) Conway passed away in 1982; his wife, daughter, and son-in-law Mr. Edward (Eddy) Anthony continued on with the family funeral home.
In 1988, Mr. James (Jimmy) Hickey and his wife Mrs. Viola Hickey of Holyrood, became partners in Conway's Funeral Home. Shortly after a new funeral home was built in Conception Harbour. A parcel of land was purchased from Mr. Wilfred (Wilf) Doyle. The new funeral home officially opened on November 1st, 1989.
In 1991, the Conway Family decided to sell their shares of the funeral home to their business partners. The Hickey's continued on with Conway's Funeral Home.
In 2005, Mrs. Carol Ann Anthony passed away and in 2009, her mother, Mrs. Jennie (Jen) Conway passed away. On May 1st, 2012, Mr. James and Mrs. Viola Hickey sold Conway's Funeral Home to Joe Flaherty of Marysvale.
May 1st, 2014, the funeral home name changed to Flaherty's Memorial Funeral Home. Prior to 1980, most wakes (visitations) were held in the family home. Although it is rare now, but a visitation (wake) can still take place in the family home upon request from the funeral service provider. Back in the day when called upon, my grandfather, Mr. John Flaherty would build wooden caskets.
